Ukraine commissioned up to 1.1 GW of new solar photovoltaic capacity in the first half of 2026, according to preliminary estimates from the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine (ASEU), bringing total installed solar generation in the country to between 9.4 and 9.7 GW. Full-year additions are expected to reach around 2 GW.<\/p>\n
The majority of new installations are built for self-consumption, with roughly 80 percent of projects by count rated below 1 MW \u2014 a segment dominated by commercial enterprises, farmers and private households seeking to cover their own electricity needs. Battery storage is expanding in parallel: after approximately 2.9 GWh of systems were commissioned in 2025, another 1.6\u20131.9 GWh was added in H1 2026, with capacity potentially reaching 3.2 GWh by December. Distributed generation and storage are carrying a key role in supplying local consumers.<\/p>\n
“Ukraine’s private sector is already investing in new energy capacity despite the war. The next challenge is to create conditions under which these investments can scale,” said Vladyslav Sokolovsky, ASEU board chairman, as quoted by pv magazine.<\/p>\n
To support further growth, ASEU is calling on authorities to simplify grid connection procedures, reduce the cost of project financing, introduce war-risk insurance for energy assets and advance Ukraine’s integration with European Union electricity markets.<\/p>\n
