The Icelandic sustainability initiative Transition Labs, with the support of Reykjavik Energy and British Space Solar, is launching a project where solar panels will be installed in orbit and energy will be transmitted to the ground wirelessly.<\/p>\n

This will ensure the production of electricity regardless of the season and weather conditions.<\/p>\n

Space Solar has already prepared the first solar panel, which will soon be launched into Earth’s orbit using a Starship rocket from SpaceX.<\/p>\n

The first Space Solar installation has an initial capacity of 30 MW, which provides uninterrupted reliable power supply that does not depend on the weather or time of day. The project aims to supply cost-effective energy around the clock, setting a new standard for renewable energy. Each 30 MW solar power plant will be transferred to orbit in a single launch.
\nStarting in 2030, the system is projected to generate enough energy to power 1,500 to 3,000 homes.<\/p>\n

The development and installation of the pilot plant will cost about $800 million. However, it is expected that such energy will be four times cheaper than nuclear energy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
