On July 7, 2025, GE Vernova received official approval to install Norway\u2019s most powerful wind turbine to date.<\/strong> The project will be carried out by its subsidiary, Georgine Wind AS, at the Sl\u00f8v\u00e5g industrial site in Gulen municipality, on Norway\u2019s southwest coast.<\/p>\n

The wind turbine will have a capacity of up to 18 megawatts (MW), a rotor diameter of 250 meters, and a total height of 275 meters. This is the first onshore turbine of this scale in Norway to be installed within an existing industrial area.<\/p>\n

The turbine is expected to generate approximately 55 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity <\/span>annually\u2014<\/span>enough to power more than 2,700 households. A five-year test period is planned before the turbine enters regular operation, with an estimated service life exceeding 25 years.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Environmental monitoring is a mandatory part of the project. This includes tracking noise levels as well as potential impacts on birds and bats. If any adverse effects are identified, mitigation measures must be implemented. The Gulen municipality has supported the project, contingent on compliance with all environmental regulations.<\/p>\n

The development builds on a previous initiative supported by the Norwegian state-owned enterprise Enova, which provided NOK 331.8 million (approx. USD 33 million) in funding for a 15.5 MW prototype. That earlier project laid the foundation for this new, larger turbine.<\/p>\n

The installation represents a significant step forward for Norway\u2019s wind energy sector. GE Vernova continues to demonstrate technological leadership in renewable energy, advancing innovation in offshore wind while upholding strong environmental standards.<\/p>\n
