The country has officially committed to generating 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, under the national Saudi Green Initiative \u2014 a flagship component of its broader Vision 2030 strategy.<\/p>\n<p>This is not just a political statement. It&#8217;s a state-level goal backed by investments, regulation, and execution. Over 130 GW of renewable energy capacity, primarily from solar and wind, is expected to come online in the next few years.<\/p>\n<p>Where do things stand today?<br \/>\nAs of early 2025:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 6 GW of renewable energy is already grid-connected.<\/li>\n<li>Another 44 GW is under development.<\/li>\n<li>Large-scale facilities like Sudair Solar (1.5 GW) are already operational.<\/li>\n<li>A new wave of investment will deliver 15 GW more by 2028.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Who is financing the transition?<br \/>\nThe Public Investment Fund (PIF) is leading the way \u2014 financing 70% of the national renewables program. In July 2025, PIF announced $8.3 billion in new investments for solar and wind projects.<\/p>\n<p>Key partners include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ACWA Power, a private renewable energy operator.<\/li>\n<li>Aramco, the state oil giant now actively investing in clean energy.<\/li>\n<li>SAPCO and Badeel, local developers tasked with project implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\ud83d\udcd1 All projects are based on long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), ensuring stable returns for investors and predictable pricing for the government \u2014 a bankable, scalable model.<\/p>\n<p>This is more than energy infrastructure.
