Developed by Solar Forma Design in collaboration with designer Samuel Wilkinson, these innovative structures combine technology, architecture, and inspiration from nature. Shaped like the African acacia trees of the savanna, their wide canopies of photovoltaic panels provide shade, lighting, and clean electricity \u2014 while leaving open ground space for people to enjoy.\"\"<\/p>\n

\u2600\ufe0f Art That Generates Energy<\/h3>\n

E-Cacias have been installed at Wick Playfield, a public park in Milwaukee. Three \u201ctrees\u201d power the park\u2019s lighting system and electronic scoreboard. Their inverted-umbrella shape captures maximum sunlight while creating a cool shaded area beneath \u2014 an ideal place to walk, relax, or gather during hot summer days.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to blend technology with human spaces \u2014 to create something functional yet aesthetic,\u201d says Brian Graff, CEO of Solar Forma Design. \u201cThe African acacia was the perfect example \u2014 nature has already solved the challenge of capturing energy efficiently.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u26a1 Impressive Efficiency and Urban Value<\/h3>\n

Each E-Cacia costs between $135,000 and $140,000, but the company notes that U.S. federal and local incentive programs can significantly reduce the final cost for municipalities and schools.<\/p>\n

Beyond power generation, these structures serve an educational mission \u2014 helping children and adults see how clean energy can be integrated into everyday life. Schoolyards, parks, and public spaces can all become open-air laboratories for learning about energy, climate, and sustainability.<\/p>\n

E-Cacias are already operating not only in Milwaukee but also in Sheboygan, Madison, Eau Claire, and even Houston. Their growing adoption shows how cities, schools, and cultural institutions are embracing solutions that make spaces both energy-efficient and people-friendly.<\/p>\n
