{"id":6887,"date":"2026-03-20T16:44:24","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T14:44:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/100re.org.ua\/?p=6887"},"modified":"2026-03-20T16:45:01","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T14:45:01","slug":"trigeneration-producing-cooling-from-waste-heat-of-a-cogeneration-unit-a-winning-project-of-the-100-green-award-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/100re.org.ua\/en\/trigeneration-producing-cooling-from-waste-heat-of-a-cogeneration-unit-a-winning-project-of-the-100-green-award-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Trigeneration: producing cooling from waste heat of a cogeneration unit \u2014 a winning project of the 100 gREen AWARD-2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"125\" data-end=\"374\">The project <strong data-start=\"137\" data-end=\"244\">\u201cTrigeneration: producing cooling not from electricity, but from the waste heat of a cogeneration unit\u201d<\/strong>became one of the winners of the <strong data-start=\"278\" data-end=\"302\">100 gREen AWARD-2025<\/strong> among the best green transformation projects in the field of bioenergy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"376\" data-end=\"592\">The technology was implemented with the participation of members of the <strong data-start=\"448\" data-end=\"484\">Bioenergy Association of Ukraine<\/strong> \u2014 the company <strong data-start=\"499\" data-end=\"513\">EnergyCase<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"518\" data-end=\"543\">Volodymyr Maistryshyn<\/strong>, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of <strong data-start=\"582\" data-end=\"591\">UABIO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"iasvgk\" data-start=\"594\" data-end=\"614\">About the project<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"811\">For almost a year, an industrial refrigeration machine has been operating at one of Ukraine\u2019s dairy plants, producing cooling not from electricity, but from the waste heat of a cogeneration unit.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"813\" data-end=\"1218\">For Ukraine, this is not just an interesting engineering solution, but a practical example of how a business can simultaneously improve energy efficiency, reduce resource consumption, and strengthen the energy resilience of its operations. In current conditions, when autonomy, stability, and predictability of energy supply are critical for businesses, such technologies are becoming especially valuable.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"151q7sy\" data-start=\"1220\" data-end=\"1240\">Operating results<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1305\">According to the operating results, gas savings exceed <strong data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1304\">40%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1307\" data-end=\"1530\">If the plant were cooled using conventional electric chillers, production needs would require about <strong data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1440\">1.4 MW of electrical capacity<\/strong>. By using waste heat from cogeneration, <strong data-start=\"1481\" data-end=\"1507\">850 kW of CHP capacity<\/strong> is sufficient instead.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1532\" data-end=\"1726\">The absorption chiller operates on recovered heat and fully covers the plant\u2019s technological cooling demand. As a result, <strong data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1684\">100% of industrial cooling<\/strong> is provided without electric compressors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1728\" data-end=\"2090\">It is also important to highlight the reliability of the solution under real Ukrainian conditions. The system successfully withstood periods of deep blackouts and prolonged frosts down to <strong data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"1929\">-15\/-20\u00b0C<\/strong>, even though the cooling tower operates with an open loop. At the same time, the system ran without \u0430\u0432\u0430\u0440\u0456\u0439\u043d\u0438\u0445 \u0441\u0446\u0435\u043d\u0430\u0440\u0456\u0457\u0432 and with minimal personnel intervention.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2092\" data-end=\"2396\">Another significant indicator is that the customer is currently considering purchasing two more such machines to provide cooling for sanatorium complexes. This demonstrates not only the technical effectiveness of the solution, but also a high level of trust in both the technology and the team behind it.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1qvjv3\" data-start=\"2398\" data-end=\"2421\">Project significance<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2423\" data-end=\"2676\">This case shows that bioenergy and related technologies can go far beyond electricity or heat generation alone. They are capable of delivering integrated energy solutions for industry, reducing operating costs, and increasing resilience to energy risks.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2678\" data-end=\"2843\">These are exactly the kinds of projects that are shaping a new quality of green transformation in Ukraine \u2014 practical, economically justified, and ready for scaling.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2845\" data-end=\"3187\">The winners were selected by the Board of <strong data-start=\"2887\" data-end=\"2913\">Global 100% RE Ukraine<\/strong> with the participation of representatives of \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0444\u0438\u043b\u044c\u043d\u0438\u0445 green energy associations, including the <strong data-start=\"3011\" data-end=\"3047\">Bioenergy Association of Ukraine<\/strong>.
