Nizhyn is steadily establishing itself as one of the communities that systematically works on energy resilience, the modernization of critical infrastructure, and the implementation of modern renewable energy solutions. One of the clearest confirmations of this is the Nizhyn Green Recovery project, which received the 100 gREen AWARD-2025 in the category Best Municipal Green Transformation Project. The award ceremony took place on April 17 in Kyiv at MIM Business School.<\/p>\n

This recognition is important not only as an award for a single case. It also highlights Nizhyn itself as a community that views energy solutions not as isolated technical projects, but as part of a broader strategy for green recovery, stronger energy independence, and long-term urban development. In 2025, Nizhyn continued its course toward greater energy resilience through the deployment of solar generation, the use of ESCO mechanisms, and the attraction of international support.<\/p>\n

It is in this context that the role of ANEW-LIFE should also be understood. Nizhyn is one of the pilot cities of this European project, whose core mission is to support the recovery of energy infrastructure, the decarbonization of communities, and the development of new financial mechanisms for the sustainable transformation of Ukrainian cities. The project focuses on supporting three pilot cities in Ukraine \u2014 Zhytomyr, Kalush, and Nizhyn \u2014 as platforms for the practical implementation of clean energy solutions.<\/p>\n

Cooperation within ANEW-LIFE began in Nizhyn in 2024. It covers sustainable urban and community development, energy efficiency improvements, the introduction of green technologies, the reduction of environmental impact, and the search for practical tools to strengthen local energy resilience. For Nizhyn, this is not a theoretical agenda, but part of real work aimed at making the city\u2019s infrastructure more modern, more cost-efficient, and less vulnerable to energy risks.<\/p>\n

The Nizhyn Green Recovery project clearly shows how this framework is being translated into practice. The city is consistently expanding the use of renewable energy in the municipal sector and demonstrating that this model can be not only environmentally sound, but also economically beneficial. It is precisely this approach that became the basis for Nizhyn\u2019s recognition at the 100 gREen AWARD-2025.<\/p>\n

Nizhyn: A Community Turning Green Recovery into Practical Action<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In 2025, Nizhyn commissioned two solar power plants under ESCO contracts and one more with grant support from the GIZ project. Over the course of the year, these new solar installations generated more than 204 MWh of electricity, delivered UAH 1.15 million in savings on electricity payments, and reduced CO\u2082 emissions by 104.6 tonnes.<\/p>\n

What matters just as much is that Nizhyn uses renewable energy in the municipal sector as a practical demonstration for others. The city shows that solar generation can serve simultaneously as a tool for cost savings, energy security, and strategic development. It is exactly this combination that makes the Nizhyn case such a strong example of municipal green transformation.<\/p>\n

In this sense, the 100 gREen AWARD-2025 became a natural continuation of this work. The award highlighted Nizhyn as a community that does not simply support the ideas of green recovery, but is already translating them into practical action \u2014 through new generation capacity, modern financing mechanisms, partnerships, and measurable results for the city.<\/p>\n

For Nizhyn itself, this is another sign that the community is moving in the right direction. Participation in ANEW-LIFE, the implementation of solar energy solutions in the municipal sector, and national recognition within the 100 gREen AWARD-2025 together form one consistent story. It is the story of a city that does not postpone change, but is already shaping its own model of energy-resilient development.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the Nizhyn case is about more than an award. It is about a community that is turning green recovery into concrete action.
