Construction has begun on what is set to become Poland’s largest battery storage facility \u2014 a 600 MW, 2.4 GWh project in Siedlce being developed by Greenvolt Power with construction contractors P&Q and ONDE, and commercial operations targeted for late 2027. Equipment will be supplied by BYD.<\/p>\n

The project’s economics rest on a 17-year capacity market contract secured through a 2023 auction. Separately, fund manager Gore Street Capital has acquired the Wolborz project in Poland, a 160 MWh facility that also holds a capacity market contract starting in 2030.<\/p>\n

Activity is accelerating across the Baltic states as well. DS1 has broken ground on a 327 MWh installation in Alytus, Lithuania, while Finnish developer Taaleri Energia has committed capital to a 420 MWh project in Estonia, with construction due to begin in September 2026.<\/p>\n

The regional build-out reflects a broader strategic shift. The Baltic market has historically been shaped by high prices for ancillary grid services, which rewarded short-duration assets. The fact that several new projects now exceed one to two hours of storage capacity suggests developers are increasingly positioning for wholesale energy trading rather than purely frequency or balancing markets.<\/p>\n

Taken together, the deals represent a multi-gigawatt-hour pipeline advancing simultaneously across Poland, Lithuania and Estonia \u2014 a sign that Central and Eastern Europe is emerging as one of the more active battery storage markets on the continent.<\/p>\n
