German Foundation Ships Solar and Battery Equipment to Five Ukrainian Facilities Before Winter
The Biohaus Foundation is sending a special cargo consignment from Paderborn, Germany, to Ukraine ahead of the cold season, carrying solar panels, battery systems and inverters for five institutions across the country.
The shipment includes 60 kW of photovoltaic modules, battery systems with hybrid inverters rated at 40 kW, and a standalone 62 kWh powerbank earmarked for a university library in Lviv. Mounting hardware and cabling are included. The delivery is coordinated with Greenpeace Ukraine, GIZ — Germany’s international development agency — and the administrations of the receiving facilities.
The route posed logistical challenges: the forwarder engaged by GIZ was unable to bring the cargo directly to Trostyanets, making that leg the most difficult stretch of the journey. Nova Poshta took on that segment of the delivery.
Five sites will receive the equipment. A Kyiv hospital that mainly treats cancer patients — including those affected by the Chornobyl accident — will get a storage-backed installation to sustain uninterrupted therapy. The Sumy regional clinical hospital and a city hospital in Trostyanets will each install autonomous units for their inpatient wards, helping both facilities maintain operations during strikes on the regional grid. A facility in Ivano-Frankivsk and the Lviv university library are also among the recipients.
The systems are intended to keep operating theatres, intensive care units and other critical medical equipment running when the power goes out.
