Ukraine to Connect 226 Distributed Gas Units to Grid by Year-End
Ukraine’s gas distribution operator plans to integrate 226 distributed generation facilities into its network before the end of the year, with 140 already connected and 86 more in the pipeline. The announcement came from Lyudmyla Kinder, chair of the management board of Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine (Hazmerezhі), in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Kinder noted that business demand for connecting distributed gas generation has been growing steadily. Each connection follows a multi-stage process: an initial assessment of network capacity, individual engineering design, construction, technical hookup, and commissioning of gas supply to the facility.
The sector has emerged as an important component in strengthening Ukraine’s energy system. First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has reported that roughly 1.8 GW of distributed gas generation is already operating across the country.
To reduce friction for large-scale developers, Hazmerezhі intends to introduce a unified approval procedure for companies building generation facilities in several regions at once. Under the current arrangement, such companies must engage separately with each regional branch. The operator wants to consolidate that interaction into a single point of contact, allowing it to review a client’s full project portfolio and align technical requirements, working procedures, and connection sequencing centrally.
Kinder emphasized that the connection process should be transparent and straightforward for businesses, and said the company is actively working toward that goal.
