Norway has increased its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund by €44.6 million (500 million Norwegian kroner), lifting the country’s cumulative donation to €209.2 million and cementing its position among the fund’s largest donors.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said the new allocation is tied directly to preparations for the coming heating season. He noted that fund resources are directed toward procuring equipment to restore critical energy infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes and toward expanding domestic generating capacity — both identified as priority areas for the sector.

The fund was established in spring 2022 in coordination with the European Commission and Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, with the explicit purpose of financing the recovery of war-damaged energy infrastructure. Since then it has received over €2 billion in grant funding from 39 donors representing 26 countries and three international organizations. The mechanism enables governments, international financial institutions, and corporate donors to channel resources quickly into equipment procurement and operational projects that keep the energy system running.
