DTEK and U.S. Partner Fluence Launch 200 MW Energy Storage Facilities
11.09.2025DTEK Group, in partnership with U.S.-based Fluence, a global leader in energy storage, has commissioned the largest energy storage complex in Ukraine’s history with a total capacity of 200 MW.
Six new facilities in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions have been connected to the grid. With a combined storage capacity of 400 MWh, they can supply electricity to around 600,000 households for two hours. The installations will enhance the flexibility and resilience of Ukraine’s power system, reduce blackout risks, and compensate for the loss of maneuverable capacities destroyed by Russian attacks.
Construction lasted only six months — from March to August 2025 — nearly twice as fast as standard timelines for such projects. Total investment amounted to €125 million.
Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Svitlana Hrynchuk, emphasized that storage systems have become as fundamental as generation itself: “Every new megawatt of storage acts as a shield for the power system, meaning greater safety for Ukrainians and fewer blackout risks.”
DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko called the launch a historic milestone that will shape the development of the energy system for years to come. He stressed that cooperation with Fluence provided access to cutting-edge technologies that make Ukraine’s energy sector more resilient.
Fluence CEO Julian Nebreda highlighted the project as a symbol of resilience and international cooperation: “Even in difficult times, innovation and partnership can pave the way to greater energy security. Together, we are contributing to building a decentralized and reliable power system for Ukraine.”
👉 This project is a vivid example of how strategic investment and international partnerships accelerate the energy transition and bring Ukraine closer to a 100% renewable future.
