France Extends C3IV Green Industry Tax Credit by Three Years

France has renewed its C3IV investment tax credit for green manufacturing for a further three years, formalised in the Official Journal on 12 August 2026. The extension is part of the country’s broader reindustrialisation strategy, aimed at reinforcing France’s standing as a European leader in decarbonisation technologies.

The scheme covers four sectors:

  • Battery manufacturing
  • Wind energy components
  • Solar panels and associated equipment
  • Heat pumps and critical raw material processing

The three-year horizon gives manufacturers the planning certainty required to commit capital in an intensely competitive global clean-tech market. By 2030, the programme is projected to support around 40 projects, mobilising €8 billion in industrial investment and creating 20,000 direct jobs at a budget cost of approximately €1.1 billion.

Since its 2024 launch, C3IV has already encompassed 73 projects. Among them are the modernisation of Siemens Gamesa’s blade plant in Le Havre and Carester’s magnet recycling facility. In solar, Holosolis raised €200 million through the credit for a 5 GW factory in Hambach — scheduled to open in 2027 and reach full capacity by 2030 — with Trina Solar serving as strategic technology partner.

The renewal arrives against a difficult backdrop. Carbon abandoned plans for an integrated 5 GW plant at Fos-sur-Mer, pointing to the absence of clear European preference mechanisms. Earlier, EDF Renewables closed Photowatt in January 2025, and Systovi was liquidated in April 2024; pv magazine notes both were unable to compete globally.
