Romania’s Green Breeze Wind Farm Passes to Nala Renewables in €214m Deal

Nala Renewables has taken ownership of the Green Breeze wind facility in eastern Romania, completing an acquisition agreed two years ago and valued at €214 million. The deal marks the largest single asset in Nala’s portfolio. The company was established by commodity trader Trafigura alongside infrastructure fund IFM Investors as their shared renewables vehicle.

Green Breeze stands in Cuza municipality, Galați county — northeast of Bucharest near the borders with Moldova and Ukraine. Sixteen Vestas V162 turbines, each rated at 6.2 MW, make up the plant; the final machine was erected late last year. Handover to the new owner followed successful commissioning and receipt of the operating licence.

Swedish developer OX2, headquartered in Stockholm, brought the project from concept through construction and will now run its day-to-day commercial operations — the company’s first completed wind farm in Romania. OX2 is currently advancing three additional Romanian wind projects with a combined capacity of around 300 MW, all at or near the construction stage.

A twelve-year virtual power purchase agreement with Apple secures revenue for a significant portion of the plant’s output. Under a vPPA arrangement, electricity flows to the wholesale market rather than directly to the corporate buyer; Apple and the producer then settle the difference between a fixed strike price and the prevailing market rate. The structure gives Apple long-term price certainty while keeping the asset’s market exposure intact.
