Ukraine has taken another important step toward energy security and green transformation. During a roundtable titled “Digital Registries — the Foundation of a Transparent Renewable Energy Market”, the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) presented the current functionality of the Biomethane Registry — a digital platform designed for transparent accounting, monitoring, and development of the biomethane market in Ukraine.

Oleksandr Dombrovskyi, Chairman of the Board, Global 100% RE Ukraine:

“I believe we are on the right track. But we must understand that serious challenges lie ahead. In the conditions of a brutal war, we need to rapidly develop all systems related to the country’s energy security. Biomethane and biogas are critical directions.”
According to Hanna Zamazieieva, Head of SAEE, the Registry was developed in line with European standards and tailored to the needs of the Ukrainian market. SAEE maintains continuous dialogue with the European Commission on technical integration, signing relevant agreements, and enabling data exchange. The ultimate goal is international recognition of Ukraine’s biomethane Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) within the EU.

“The Registry will only be launched when the market is ready. Our goal is not just a technical launch, but a functioning system that delivers results,” Zamazieieva emphasized.

The roundtable brought together key stakeholders from the energy, agricultural, and digital sectors, as well as international partners, including representatives from the Ukrainian government, the EU Delegation to Ukraine, the Danish Energy Agency, the Energy Community Secretariat, and industry leaders.

This initiative underscores Ukraine’s commitment to digitization, transparency, and integration into the European energy market — even amidst the ongoing war. The Registry will play a crucial role in building investor trust and accelerating the development of Ukraine’s renewable energy sector.
