Energy of the Future: How Bioenergy Helps Communities Become Autonomous and Resilient
14.10.2025The world is rapidly shifting toward renewable energy sources. For Ukrainian communities, this is more than just a global trend – it’s a matter of survival, savings, and independence.
During wartime, the energy stability of communities has become a key security factor, and the search for autonomous energy solutions – a strategic priority. One such solution is bioenergy – a field capable of providing heat and electricity even to the most remote communities.
This topic will be discussed during the sixth lecture of the “Changes Are Here” course, which will take place on Wednesday, October 15.
Lecture theme: “Energy of the Future: Community Autonomy and Resilience.”
How Communities Can Achieve Energy Autonomy
Participants will learn how to create an energy-autonomous community, implement renewable energy sources (RES), conduct energy audits, and find funding for sustainable solutions.
Key topics include local energy planning, efficient resource management, and the development of bioenergy as one of the most promising directions for communities.
Speakers
- Heorhii Geletukha, Chairman of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO), will talk about how bioenergy can help communities achieve energy independence.
- Viktoriia Voitsytska, energy and finance expert, member of the Supervisory Board of We Build Ukraine, will share insights on financing energy projects and conducting energy audits.
- Olha Babii, former member of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC), will present practical approaches to local energy planning and resource management.
Educational Initiative
The “Changes Are Here” course consists of 12 educational lectures for community representatives, entrepreneurs, and activists who aim to make their territories sustainable, energy-efficient, and independent.
Participants will learn how to:
- conduct an energy audit and understand real resource consumption within their community;
- implement renewable energy sources (RES) locally;
- find funding for sustainable projects;
- develop a community energy development plan.
All course materials are available on the We Build Ukraine website, where participants can also read short summaries of the previous five lectures.
Registration for the course and lecture summaries are available on the We Build Ukraine website.
