One of the hospitals in Truskavets, a resort town in the Carpathian region of Ukraine, has received a solar power plant.

As UNDP Ukraine reports, this is the seventh medical facility to use solar energy through the ESCO mechanism.

The 105 kW solar power plant will generate more than 85,000 kWh of clean electricity per year and will save up to 15% of conventional electricity annually.

The project took only seven months to implement. Within three months, the company managed to go through all the stages of public procurement in the Prozorro system, and in another four months, the ESCO company produced project documentation, purchased the relevant equipment, and installed the solar power plant.

Thanks to the ESCO mechanism, the healthcare facility received not only a modern solar power plant, but also professional management of the SPP during the term of the energy service agreement, without increasing budget expenditures. Upon completion of the ESCO agreement, all the equipment of the solar power plant will be transferred to the hospital free of charge.

The initiative was made possible thanks to the team of the project “Removing Barriers to Promoting Energy Efficiency Investments in Public Buildings in Small and Medium-Sized Cities in Ukraine through the ESCO Mechanism” funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNDP, which supports communities at all stages of energy service and helps to attract ESCO investments for the energy security of critical infrastructure.
