Green Industrial Recovery for Ukraine: UNIDO, Global 100% RE Ukraine, UABIO, and MHP Eco Energy Launch a Technology Partnership Project with Japan
25.09.2025Today, the inaugural meeting of participants in the international UNIDO project “Green Industrial Recovery Project for Ukraine” took place. The initiative aims to support the sustainable recovery of Ukraine’s industry and the development of green energy. Project partners include Global 100% RE Ukraine, the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO), MHP Eco Energy, Japanese companies Solution Creators Inc., CYTOK GmbH, RE:CS Holdings, as well as Kyushu University (Japan).
The project focuses on utilizing Ukraine’s untapped biomass potential to produce biomethane through anaerobic digestion, alongside the deployment of CO₂ capture and utilization (CCU) technologies. This approach enables the simultaneous production of renewable gas and the use of “green” CO₂ generated during the purification of biomethane.
According to preliminary studies, Ukraine’s biomethane potential is enormous — up to 20 billion m³ annually by 2050. Already, about 85 biogas plants are operating in the country, with four of them modernized for biomethane production. This marks the first step toward large-scale use of domestic resources for decentralized, sustainable, and climate-neutral energy supply.
The project’s goal is to create a business model that combines biomethane production, export to the EU, and the development of domestic green industries, while also contributing to Ukraine’s integration into European energy markets.
Representatives of the partner organizations emphasized that this project should serve as an example of technological cooperation between Ukraine, Japan, and international institutions, as well as an important step toward strengthening Ukraine’s energy security and independence.
