Ukraine’s Green Transformation: SEI Releases First National Assessment Report
02.07.2025In June 2025, the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) released the first-ever National Green Transformation Assessment Report for Ukraine. Developed under the Green Agenda initiative for Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, and supported by the European Commission, the report provides a comprehensive evaluation of Ukraine’s readiness for a green transition aligned with European Union integration.
The document assesses 12 key sectors, including energy, industry, transport, agriculture, digitalization, and waste management. It highlights Ukraine’s significant potential to embed sustainability into its post-war recovery, positioning green transformation as a foundation for future economic resilience and energy independence.
The report emphasizes that green transformation is not only an environmental priority but also a strategic driver for modernization and reform. Aligning with the European Green Deal, Ukraine can build back better by adopting clean technologies, attracting green investment, and harmonizing with EU environmental standards.
This assessment serves as a roadmap for policymakers, international partners, and stakeholders, offering strategic insights into how Ukraine can accelerate its sustainable development and reinforce its path toward EU membership.
