The Head of Global 100% RE Ukraine took part in the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue-2024
06.12.2024Oleksandr Dombrovsky, Chairman of Global 100% RE Ukraine and President of MHP Eco Energy, took part in the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue-2024, which was recently held in Kyiv.
This is an annual event organized by the DiXi Group think tank. It brings together Ukrainian, European and American experts, government and business representatives to discuss key challenges and strategies in the energy sector. This year’s event has once again become a platform for frank discussions aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience in times of war and preparing for the future.
“This is our third military winter and the fourth Energy Security Dialogue. The aggressor is still trying to plunge us into darkness, having destroyed more than 50% of the energy infrastructure. But we must keep the lights on and make them permanent for Ukrainians. Rebuilding the energy system is a task for all of us,” DiXi Group President Olena Pavlenko said at the opening ceremony.
This year, the organizers of the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue have identified several areas for discussion:
- Strategies to combat threats in the energy sector and mitigate risks
- Measures to enhance the safety and reliability of energy facilities and networks
- Cooperation with EU countries: a joint action plan to strengthen energy security and resilience at the regional level
- Cooperation within ENTSO-E: strengthening interconnections, increasing and optimizing electricity imports
- Solution generators: what Ukrainian businesses and communities did to get through the winter and what lessons can be learned from it.
Oleksandr Dombrovsky took part in the last panel – “Solution Generators: How Businesses and Communities Build Their Own Energy Independence”. In particular, he spoke about the areas of work of MHP Eco Energy. The company is working on technological solutions for decarbonization by 2030, the development of biogas and biomethane projects, and solar generation (15 MW in 2024, while the potential of solar generation at MHP facilities is 800 MW). The company is also integrating green hydrogen production with biomethane technologies based on its own laboratory in Ukraine.
According to Oleksandr Dombrovsky, solar panels are a faster and simpler option compared to wind farms, which require annual weather studies. However, the head of Global 100% RE Ukraine emphasized that both solar and wind require the integration of energy storage systems.
In general, this panel was devoted to energy autonomy, including the work of businesses and communities in this area. Businesses presented examples of installing generators, cogeneration units, and developing solar energy. Investments in decarbonization, green technologies and hydrogen production were also discussed. Communities shared their experience in switching to renewable energy sources, modernizing infrastructure, and creating local energy systems.
