The Bioenergy Association of Ukraine is presenting a course of lectures on bioenergy for teachers and researchers of Ukrainian universities on the educational platform Prometheus.

The Association notes that the course is completely free. To participate, you only need access to the Internet at a speed sufficient to view video lectures.

The aim of the course is to provide participants with not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills necessary to conduct research in the field of bioenergy, develop new methods and technologies in this area, and implement them in the educational process.

The lectures cover important aspects of the bioenergy sector, including

  • production of heat and electricity from biomass, as well as their combined production;
  • biogas and biomethane production;
  • cultivation of energy crops;
  • feasibility study of bioenergy projects.

Course Programme:

  1. Current state and prospects of bioenergy development in Ukraine and in the world.
  2. Technologies and equipment for the production of thermal energy from biomass.
  3. Technologies and equipment for the production of heat and electricity from biomass.
  4. Technical and economic assessment of heat and electricity production from biomass.
  5. Best practices of EU countries in harvesting and supplying biomass for energy use.
  6. Technologies and equipment for biogas production.
  7. Biogas enrichment technologies.
  8. Feasibility studies of biogas/biomethane production projects.
  9. Technologies and equipment for the production of biomass pellets and briquettes.
  10. Storage of biomass intended for energy use.

Speakers:

  • Georgii Geletukha, PhD, Director of the SEC ‘Biomass’.
  • Tetiana Zhelezna, PhD, Senior Consultant, SEC Biomass.
  • Semen Dragnev, PhD, Senior Consultant, SEC Biomass.
  • Petro Kucheruk, PhD, Senior Consultant, SEC ‘Biomass’.
  • Volodymyr Kramar, PhD, Senior Consultant, SEC Biomass.
  • Yevhen Oliynyk, Senior Consultant, SEC Biomass.

Students will acquire knowledge on important technical, economic and environmental aspects of biomass energy use, namely:

  • get acquainted with the state and future of bioenergy both in Ukraine and in the world;
  • master technologies for heat and electricity production, which will allow more efficient use of resources;
  • learn to carry out a technical and economic analysis of energy production from biomass;
  • master the technologies and equipment for biogas production and the production of biomass pellets and briquettes;
  • learn about methods of storing biomass for energy use and much more.

Upon successful completion of all tasks, participants will be able to receive a certificate of completion signed by the instructor.

The course has been developed by SEC Biomass and the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine as part of the EBRD/GEF Knowledge Management Programme for Sustainable Bioenergy Development.
