Viessmann Ukraine Rebuilds After July Strike, Scales Up Mobile Heat Capacity

A missile strike on 19 July destroyed the Ukrainian logistics hub of Viessmann Climate Solutions Ukraine, incinerating the facility along with equipment prepared for reconstruction projects. Within two months the company had a new warehouse of approximately 1,000 square metres ready for opening at an alternative location — concrete shelters are currently being installed on site — and replaced the destroyed components at its own expense to meet delivery commitments to international partners by the end of October.

The first trucks carrying new equipment have already arrived at the replacement site. CEO Oleksandr Zbanko told Forbes Ukraine that continuity of supply under existing contracts was preserved through support from the parent company, local partners and suppliers. The company remains on track to fulfil its obligations under a GIZ project by October 2026.

The disruption comes amid a notable change in municipal heat procurement. Following strikes on centralised generation infrastructure, cities have been turning more frequently to mobile boiler plants because of how quickly they can be deployed. The scale of Viessmann’s involvement in this segment has grown considerably: a 2022 project with NEFCO covered ten block-modular boiler plants with a combined capacity of 40 MW, while a subsequent project with UNOPS for Kharkiv saw more than 100 MW deployed in 12 and 24 MW modules. By 2026, market interest has shifted toward containerised mobile boiler plants that include integrated diesel generators and can be installed in days.

Zbanko said cogeneration, heat pumps, hybrid systems, waste-heat recovery and integration with solar generation will shape the sector going forward, reflecting a broader move from standalone heat sources toward comprehensive energy systems.
