Almost every 10th megawatt of energy in Ukraine is generated from renewable sources

Forbes has presented the first ranking of companies with the largest renewable energy generation capacity.

Before the rating, it gave a brief overview of the situation with green energy in Ukraine.

In the first half of 2024, the share of renewable energy sources (RES) increased by 0.3 percentage points to 9.8%. The results for the year may be even better.

Unfortunately, the “green transition” was accelerated not by the rapid development of renewable technologies, but by Russian missiles and the almost completely destroyed thermal generation. Therefore, renewables are now being given the role of savior of the Ukrainian energy sector.

Ukrenergo is forming a model of the future energy system based on renewable energy sources. The goal is to increase the capacity of wind generation fivefold in 2-3 years, biofuel TPPs fourfold, solar generation by 60%, and build 0.8 GW of energy storage systems from scratch.
