Amazon Scales Up Heavy Electric Trucking in Germany with Mercedes-Benz eActros 600

Amazon has put 26 of 50 ordered Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric semi-trucks to work across its German logistics network, with the rest of the batch due to join the fleet before the close of 2026. The roll-out sits within a larger procurement agreement covering more than 200 electric heavy trucks.

Each eActros 600 carries a 621 kWh battery pack feeding Mercedes-Benz proprietary electric drive axles, which the manufacturer rates at 1.61 kWh per mile at a combined vehicle weight of 36 metric tonnes. Amazon is deploying the vehicles on medium-range inter-hub corridors, where the stated 500-kilometre range keeps them competitive with diesel tractor units.

To handle charging demand, Amazon is fitting hundreds of DC fast-charging stations across its German sites. The infrastructure brings battery state-of-charge from 20 to 80 percent in just over an hour.

Andreas Marschner, Amazon’s Vice President for Sustainable Operations, said the deployment marks a logical next step: after electrifying last-mile delivery, the company is now extending battery-electric operations to the longer lanes connecting fulfilment centres with urban distribution points.

Stina Fagerman, regional president of Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Europe, noted that running the trucks at this scale demonstrates commercial readiness for heavy-duty electrification.

Amazon puts its total European electrification and decarbonisation investment at more than €1 billion, of which €400 million targets German operations. A Frontier Economics study commissioned by the company found that the investment created upwards of 35,000 jobs and injected up to €3 billion into the German economy.
