CATL Launches TECTRANS II Heavy-Truck Battery Platform at IAA 2026

CATL used IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, to unveil TECTRANS II, a second-generation battery platform developed specifically for heavy commercial vehicles. The launch targets technical barriers that have held back electrification of long-haul freight.

At the centre of the platform is a modular architecture built around standardized battery packs that can be flexibly configured to suit different energy and payload requirements. High energy density enables up to 1,000 km of range in heavy-duty configurations without reducing a vehicle’s cargo capacity.

Thermal management has been significantly reinforced, allowing the battery to deliver stable current output even under extreme temperature swings. The architecture supports both integrated e-axle and central drive layouts, and is compatible with megawatt-level charging as well as rapid battery swapping. The system is rated for a service life of several million kilometres.

Standardization across the platform means battery technology and pack configuration can be updated without substantial changes to the vehicle itself — a design choice that simplifies future upgrades for truck manufacturers.

For logistics companies, the shift to high-capacity battery systems of this kind offers a path to lower fleet maintenance costs while meeting Europe’s tightening decarbonisation requirements for the transport sector.
