DTEK’s D.Trading and Capalo AI Join Forces to Stabilise Battery Storage Revenue Across Europe

Ukrainian energy trader D.Trading, part of the DTEK holding, has signed a partnership with Finnish technology firm Capalo AI to give battery energy storage developers a more predictable long-term income on European power markets. The agreement was announced on 8 September.

The structure divides responsibilities along two clear lines. D.Trading will act as the power offtaker and provide the contractual and financial backbone — including structured revenue products and credit support. Capalo AI will manage market access and portfolio optimisation through its Capalo Zeus VPP™ platform, covering day-ahead, intraday and ancillary-services segments.

The intended effect is to shield storage owners from revenue volatility while still letting them benefit from market price movements. The solution is available for standalone battery systems and hybrid renewable projects alike. Commercial arrangements on offer include direct trading deals, floor-price-plus-profit-share contracts, and tolling agreements.

Initial rollout will focus on the Balkans, with subsequent expansion planned across Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. Dmytro Sakharuk, CEO of D.Trading, said the deal marries his company’s capacity to structure long-term financial solutions with the Finnish firm’s AI-driven approach to electricity market optimisation.

D.Trading currently operates in 26 countries, trading electricity, natural gas and LNG. Last year it sold more than 40.5 billion kWh of power and 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas; revenue for the first three quarters of 2025 exceeded UAH 197 billion. The partnership arrives as Ukraine’s battery import bill surpassed $1 billion in the past year — one and a half times the previous year’s figure — reflecting the country’s rapid expansion of energy storage capacity.
