Europe’s Renewable PPA Market Bounces Back With 1.2 GW of September Deals
Europe’s long-term renewable power purchase agreement market recorded a sharp monthly rebound in September, with 25 contracts signed for a combined 1.2 gigawatts — compared with just 335 MW the previous month.
Corporate buyers drove the bulk of that activity, accounting for 21 of the 25 agreements and 1.1 GW of the total volume. Across those deals, onshore wind projects attracted 281 MW, solar installations secured 276 MW, and hybrid developments incorporating battery energy storage added a further 167 MW.

Prices rose alongside deal volumes. The Pexapark EURO Composite index climbed 5% in September, pushed higher by rising electricity and gas forwards as well as calibration adjustments, according to the consultancy’s monthly market review. The price movement was widespread but uneven: the United Kingdom posted the steepest increase at 10.9%, while Italy and Poland each gained 6.9%. The Iberian Peninsula was the sole exception — Spain fell 3.5% and Portugal 1.4%.
Flexible power agreements (FPAs) also surged. Sixteen contracts covering approximately 2.1 GW and 4.7 GWh were finalised during the month, up from 869 MW in August. Among the notable September transactions were a 400 MW tolling deal in Poland between Statkraft and Greenvolt, and a hybrid PPA linking Zelestra and Salzgitter that combined a 147 MW solar project with an 79 MW/237 MWh storage system.
