Naftogaz Wins 300 MW Wind Quota at Ukraine’s State Support Auction

Ukraine’s state energy company Naftogaz has secured a quota to develop 300 MW of wind power through a state support auction, according to Serhiy Fedorenko, who published the results on Facebook.

The tender drew notable market interest: nine companies participated and collectively submitted 93 competitive bids. Combined demand for capacity came in at nearly double the volume available, and average bid prices landed 26 percent below the opening level — a result that reflects strong investor appetite and willingness to compete on price for state support.

Naftogaz competed on the same terms as the other eight participants. The quota allocation, however, does not mean construction will begin immediately. The company must still complete a full cycle of investment, technical, and permitting procedures before any work starts. Specific timelines, project locations, and investment figures have not been disclosed, and the source does not clarify how long the regulatory process is expected to take.

Distributed wind generation holds particular relevance in Ukraine’s current operating environment: dispersed generation assets are less exposed to single-point outages caused by damage to centralized infrastructure from Russian strikes. When awarded capacity actually comes online will depend on how quickly the remaining technical and permitting stages are completed.
