Polish energy group PGE has contracted Fluence to supply battery storage equipment for an 800 MWh facility near the northwestern city of Gryfino, with commissioning targeted for 2028. Once operational, the project is expected to rank among the largest energy storage installations in Central and Eastern Europe.

Fluence will deliver 94 Smartstack modules rated at 10 MWh each, yielding a total nameplate capacity of roughly 940 MWh against a guaranteed usable capacity of 800 MWh. The two-hour-duration station is designed with grid-forming capability. Design and construction will be carried out on a turnkey basis by a consortium comprising SPEC BAU Polska and El Professional. The project is backed by a 17-year contract on the Polish capacity market.

Fluence sales head Arik Zurek described Gryfino as the company’s third and largest site in Poland, following earlier installations in Trzebinia and Osiek. With this agreement, Fluence’s total signed contracts in the country reach approximately 1.5 GWh of Smartstack systems. Zurek noted that few European storage markets are growing as quickly as Poland’s, and that the consortium arrangement combines Fluence’s technology with experienced local execution teams.

S&P Global analysts forecast that Poland’s total installed storage capacity will exceed 8 GW by 2030.
