Greece’s PPC picks up a 2 GW renewables pipeline in Poland and Hungary

Greek state-owned power company PPC is buying ABO Energy’s Hungarian and Polish subsidiaries, taking on the project pipeline, operating assets and 38 staff. The deal hands PPC control of a portfolio of roughly two gigawatts.

It covers five operating solar plants totalling 82 MW plus one 17 MW project nearing completion. Financial terms were not disclosed, and closing is expected by year-end. The German developer has worked in these markets since 2019.

ABO Energy managing director Karsten Schlageter framed the disposal as another move toward concentrating on markets where the developer sees durable commercial prospects. The company added that the transaction does not affect its planned restructuring and financing, and that a separate shift toward an independent power producer model, announced in September 2025, remains on its own track.

For PPC the purchase fits a wider expansion drive that mixes greenfield development with acquisitions: the operator earlier completed a 2.13 GW cluster in northern Greece and picked up an 88 MW project in Bulgaria. The Central European pipeline extends that reach beyond its home market.
