Underwater wind turbines to be built off the coast of Normandy
27.03.2025France will build an interesting power plant that will run on tidal energy.
The NH1 project, developed by Normandie Hydroliennes, has already received more than €30 million in EU funding.
It will be one of the first commercial projects in France to be based on tidal energy, harnessing the Moon’s influence on the Earth.
The four horizontal AR3000 turbines, the most powerful tidal turbines in the world, will produce 34 GWh of electricity annually. This is enough to provide energy for 15,000 homes.
The project is in line with France’s 2030 renewable energy targets.
NH1 was chosen to be financed because of its innovation and economic feasibility – AR3000 turbines are not only the most powerful but also competitive in price.
According to experts, the potential of tidal energy in France is estimated at up to 5 GW.
Tidal turbines are safe for the environment, have minimal impact on the marine environment, and are easily recycled after their operation.
