Irpin Equips Nine Educational Facilities With Solar as Energy Storage Deployment Continues

Nine educational facilities in Irpin — including kindergartens and lyceums — now carry solar installations totaling more than 275 kilowatts, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration has reported. Energy storage systems are currently being fitted as the municipality works to build a hybrid power network for critical and social infrastructure.

The initiative pairs existing generators with solar generation and energy storage to strengthen local energy resilience. All kindergartens and lyceums in the city have generators and fuel reserves to maintain operations during blackouts.

Among the individual sites, Lyceum No. 1 has installed a solar power system with energy storage, rated at 20 kW. For extended outages the facility relies on a 150 kW generator, while its cafeteria and air-raid shelter maintain their own separate backup supply.

Kindergarten “Ruta,” backed by the Lithuanian government, received 275 solar panels rated at a combined 130 kW alongside an 80 kW backup generator. Family medicine clinics across the city have also been equipped with solar installations and generators to ensure uninterrupted medical services.

The city polyclinic — which consumes roughly 1,000 kWh per day — currently runs on a split generator schedule: a 280 kW unit covers daytime hours while a 50 kW unit takes over at night to conserve fuel, with a 200 kW generator held in reserve. A dedicated project has been drawn up for the polyclinic comprising an 85 kW solar station and a 400 kWh storage system, designed to reduce the facility’s reliance on both centralized electricity supply and diesel generators.
