In Kosiv, in the Carpathian region of Ukraine, a solar power plant was installed to provide electricity to the local pumping station.

“Due to the deterioration of the network, the cost of supplying water to the city is very expensive. And the main share of this cost is the cost of electricity, which is used to pump water from wells into the reservoir. Last year, electricity costs amounted to more than UAH 700 thousand, and the price is still rising,” Kosiv city mayor Yuriy Ploskonos explained the reasoning behind the installation of green facilities.

According to him, in order to save money, the city authorities decided to install solar panels at the pumping station. UAH 1.5 million was allocated, and a 56 kW solar power plant was installed with this money. The first launch took place on October 7.

Water is pumped by two pumps with a capacity of 15 kW each. Thus, even in winter, the SPP’s capacity should be partially sufficient to operate one pump.

“Excess electricity will be supplied to the general grid. We will also be able to supply water to a large number of consumers in the event of prolonged power outages,” the mayor said.

According to him, the investment should be recouped in a maximum of three years.
