Ukrainian Food Producer Gets 375 kW Solar Plant at Zero Upfront Cost Under PPA Deal
A Ukrainian food industry company has commissioned a 375 kW solar power system without spending its own capital. The installation, valued at nearly 9 million hryvnias, was fully financed by energy company Yasno — through its D.Solutions subsidiary — under a power purchase agreement completed in October 2026.
Under the PPA model, the investor first assesses the company’s energy needs, then funds the design, installation, and ongoing maintenance of the system. The enterprise signed a ten-year electricity supply contract, committing to purchase the generated output on agreed terms rather than owning the equipment outright.
Key parameters of the deal include:
- a contract price set below the day-ahead market rate;
- projected annual generation of approximately 373,000 kWh;
- an option to transfer ownership to the consumer after ten years, or to buy out the system early.
The arrangement is designed for manufacturers with high daytime consumption, where solar generation feeds production processes directly. Yasno notes that the company pays nothing upfront but covers every kilowatt-hour produced. The financial outcome ultimately depends on the agreed price, actual system output, and the volume of electricity consumed.
The model carries a trade-off: the enterprise takes on an obligation to purchase electricity for the full contract term. More broadly, whether a PPA price comes in below market depends on the specific terms negotiated — the Yasno case illustrates one scenario, not a universal outcome.
