On 21-22 September 2023, the conference “Doing Business in Ukraine”, organised by CSIS | Center for Strategic & International Studies, took place in Washington, DC.

The conference provided an opportunity for representatives of the Ukrainian private sector and government to interact with representatives of multinational companies and international financial institutions to discuss opportunities for Ukrainian business and the country’s recovery, as well as trade opportunities with the United States and G-7 allies.
The conference focused on short-term actions to restore transport infrastructure, the energy and agricultural sectors, and attracting foreign investors to finance these projects.

The Ukrainian government’s announcement that it would achieve electricity generation from renewable energy sources (50%) and nuclear energy (50%) by 2035 aroused keen interest among the participants. There was a lot of discussion about the need to change Ukrainian legislation, create a comfortable environment for investors, taking into account war risk insurance and state guarantees for the safety of investments from Ukraine.

In his speech, Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA), focused on the wide opportunities for investment in the country’s wind energy sector, stressing that even before the war began, there was already a successful history of fruitful cooperation between American investors and Ukrainian wind energy companies.
